Coach international clients in Tokyo — on your own schedule, without leaving your current gym.

We are expanding our English-language Muay Thai and Kickboxing lessons for international residents and visitors, and we are looking for one or two coaches who want to build this with us — gradually, and honestly.

Important — Please Read Before You Apply

We would rather be honest now than disappoint you later

  • Work authorization: You must already have valid authorization to work in Japan for this type of activity (for example permanent residency, a spouse or long-term resident status, a working holiday visa, or another status that permits this work). FitSync does not currently provide visa sponsorship. If you are unsure whether your status covers this work, we will confirm the details together during the selection process — but we cannot start working with anyone on a temporary visitor status.
  • English is required: You must be able to coach international clients safely and clearly in English. You do not need to be a native speaker.
  • This is independent contractor work, not employment: there is no salary, no fixed shifts, and no minimum number of lessons.
  • Assignments are not guaranteed: we are still growing this service. At the beginning, there may be very few assignments — and in some months there may even be none.
  • Personal Trainer positions are currently closed: this posting is only for Muay Thai / Kickboxing instruction. Our personal training and strength & conditioning roles are already filled.

If you have read the above and it still sounds interesting — great. The rest of this page explains exactly how the work is structured, what we pay, and what we are looking for.

About the Opportunity

About FitSync

Issei Shima — founder of FitSync

Issei Shima
Founder of FitSync
Representative of AlphaEdge

FitSync provides one-on-one and small-group Muay Thai, Kickboxing and boxing-based lessons in Tokyo — at our five Tokyo gyms (Roppongi, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza, Azabu-Juban), and on-site at clients' homes and hotels. Our founder, Issei Shima, is a former professional Muay Thai and kickboxing fighter with around 60 professional fights.

We are currently expanding our services for international residents and visitors: English-speaking clients living in Tokyo, travelers, business visitors and hotel guests. FitSync handles the marketing, booking inquiries and coordination — you focus on coaching.

Our clients range from experienced fighters to complete beginners, tourists, fitness-oriented customers and families. Many have never thrown a punch before. The ability to make a beginner feel safe and successful matters to us just as much as your own fighting level.

Who We Are Looking For

1–2 coaches, chosen carefully

We are hiring one or two Muay Thai / Kickboxing instructors. Submitting an application does not guarantee an interview, contract, or future assignments — we review experience, coaching ability, safety awareness, communication, personality, professionalism, availability and fit with our customers' needs as a whole. Strong competition experience alone is not automatic acceptance; how you treat a nervous first-timer matters just as much.

The ideal candidate

  • Solid Muay Thai and/or Kickboxing experience (professional or amateur competition experience is welcome, and so is coaching experience)
  • Able to teach complete beginners safely, and to adapt intensity to each client
  • Comfortable working with international clients in English
  • Friendly but professional; reliable; patient; good demonstration skills
  • Understands that many customers are beginners, tourists or fitness-oriented — not fighters
  • Customer-first attitude: punctual, well-presented, safety-conscious
  • It is completely fine if you also have strength & conditioning or general fitness experience — but the work itself is Muay Thai, Kickboxing and striking-based private lessons

How the Contractor Model Works

Freedom first — this is not a job with shifts

This is an independent contractor arrangement, not employment. You are not a FitSync employee, and we think that is a good thing — here is what it means in practice:

01

No fixed shifts, no minimums

There are no fixed shifts, no minimum working hours, no minimum number of lessons, and no guaranteed monthly income. You work per assignment, and only when you choose to.

02

Accept only what fits

When a customer request comes in, we send you the date, time, location, service and contractor fee. If it fits your schedule, accept it. If it doesn't, decline it — declining an assignment will not be treated as misconduct.

03

Non-exclusive

You do not need to leave your current gym or job to work with FitSync. Other gyms, your own business, other contractor work, competition and study are all fine in parallel.

04

We handle the business side

Web marketing, SEO, English and Chinese customer acquisition, OTA development, booking inquiries, customer communication, assignment coordination and payments are handled by FitSync. You focus on coaching, customer service at the session, and safety.

05

Clear, fair contract

A lawyer-reviewed contractor agreement defines the details. Once you formally accept an assignment, you are expected to deliver it responsibly and professionally — that is the only firm commitment we ask for.

06

Late-cancellation protection

If a customer cancels a confirmed booking less than 24 hours before the session (including no-shows), you still receive the full agreed contractor fee for that lesson.

The only things we ask you not to do: approaching FitSync-introduced customers directly to bypass FitSync, using FitSync customer information elsewhere, or sharing confidential information externally. The contract covers the details.

How Assignments Work

From customer inquiry to your payment

  1. 1

    A customer contacts FitSync

Through our website, partner channels or booking platforms.

  5. 5

    You accept or decline

Freely, based on your own schedule. No penalty for declining.

  6. 6

    The booking is confirmed

If you accept and are selected, the booking is confirmed with the customer.

  7. 7

    You deliver the lesson

Safe, professional coaching — this part is all yours.

  8. 8

FitSync pays the agreed contractor fee

Weekly, same-day or end-of-month payment — your choice.

Where This Is Going — Honestly

Growth may take time

FitSync is currently expanding its services for international residents and visitors in Tokyo: English-speaking and Chinese-speaking customers, inbound travelers, business visitors, hotel guests, and booking platforms. We are building the marketing, the pages and the partnerships now — which is exactly why we are looking for coaches now.

But we will not pretend: at the beginning, there may be very few assignments — and in some months there may even be none. We cannot promise how quickly demand will grow. What we can promise is that FitSync is building this service for the long term, and that as customer demand grows, suitable trainers may gradually receive more opportunities and build repeat clients.

We are looking for one or two coaches who are comfortable building this gradually with us — ideally alongside their existing gym, job or competition schedule.

Is This Right for You?

A quick self-check

This may be a good fit if you:

  • already have permission to work in Japan
  • already have another job, gym or source of income
  • want additional coaching opportunities on the side
  • want to gradually build clients in Tokyo
  • enjoy working with international customers
  • prefer flexible contractor work over fixed shifts

This is probably not suitable if you need:

  • a guaranteed full-time salary
  • fixed weekly shifts
  • guaranteed monthly hours or income
  • immediate high-volume assignments
  • visa sponsorship from FitSync

This is not about ability — it is about timing and structure. If you need stable full-time income right now, contractor work with a growing service is simply not the right vehicle, and we would rather tell you that before you apply.

Japanese Language

Not required

Japanese is NOT required. You can apply and work with FitSync without speaking Japanese — our international clients are coached in English, and FitSync handles customer communication and coordination.

If you can communicate in Japanese, we may also be able to introduce Japanese-speaking clients and a wider range of assignments — but this is a bonus, never a requirement.

Requirements

What you need to apply

Required

  • Valid authorization to work in Japan for this type of activity (FitSync does not provide visa sponsorship; specific statuses are confirmed individually during selection)
  • English communication ability — practical, coaching-level English; native level is not necessary, but "still studying" is not enough for this role
  • Solid Muay Thai or Kickboxing experience, and the ability to coach clients safely
  • Age 20–59
  • Punctuality, professional attitude and a customer service mindset
  • Agreement to FitSync's independent contractor terms, with safety management as the first priority
  • Able to travel to assigned locations within Tokyo (Roppongi / Shinjuku / Shibuya / Ginza / Azabu-Juban / on-site)

Welcome (not required)

  • Professional or amateur competition experience
  • Coaching experience or fitness qualifications
  • Japanese communication ability (see above — expands your assignment range)
  • Female coaches: FitSync has women-only lesson slots, and female coaches are prioritized for those customers
  • Strength & conditioning or general fitness background (fine to have — but note the work itself is striking-based)

Application Process

Simple and direct

  1. 1

    Submit the application form

Applications are open 24 hours. We reply within 24 hours with a confirmation email.

  2. 2

    Schedule an interview

The founder (Issei Shima) contacts you directly to arrange an in-person meeting.

  3. 3

    In-person interview

At one of our locations. We discuss your background, preferred areas, availability, and confirm your work authorization details together. No resume required in advance — tell us your story in person.

  4. 4

    Contract review and signing

A lawyer-reviewed contractor agreement, signed online, by mail, or in person — whichever you prefer.

  5. 5

    First assignments

The founder joins your first one or two lessons for a smooth start. If you later agree, we may create a trainer profile for you on the FitSync website to help attract clients — always with your review and final approval before anything is published.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Language & eligibility

Do I need to speak Japanese?

No. Japanese is helpful but not required. If you can communicate in Japanese, we may also be able to introduce Japanese-speaking clients and a wider range of assignments.

Do I need to speak English?

Yes. You must be able to safely coach international clients in English. You do not need to be a native speaker, but practical coaching-level English is required — "I want to start learning English" is not enough for this role.

Does FitSync sponsor work visas?

No, not currently. You must already have valid authorization to work in Japan for this type of activity. If you are unsure about your specific status, we will confirm the details individually during selection — but we cannot promise or arrange visas.

Can tourists apply?

Applicants must already be legally permitted to work in Japan. We cannot start working with applicants on a temporary visitor status or any other status that does not allow this type of paid work.

Work style

Can I keep working at another gym?

Yes. FitSync is non-exclusive. Working at another gym, running your own business, studying, or competing are all completely fine. The only restrictions: please do not approach FitSync-introduced customers directly to bypass FitSync, and do not use FitSync customer information elsewhere. The contract covers the details.

Can I decline an assignment?

Yes — any assignment, before accepting it. Declining will not be treated as misconduct and will not put you on a blacklist. Once you formally accept an assignment, we do ask you to deliver it responsibly.

Are there fixed shifts or a minimum number of lessons?

No fixed shifts, no minimum hours, no minimum number of lessons. You choose what to accept.

Can I continue competing?

Yes — we welcome active competitors, as long as the assignments you accept can be fulfilled professionally.

Assignments & income

Is income guaranteed?

No. This is per-assignment contractor work. There is no guaranteed income, no guaranteed number of lessons, and no guaranteed clients.

How many lessons will I receive?

It depends entirely on customer demand and on how well your profile fits each request. We are honest about this: at the beginning it may be very limited, and in some months there may be none. As the service grows, suitable trainers may gradually receive more opportunities and build repeat clients — but we do not promise growth timelines.

What happens if a customer cancels late?

If a customer cancels a confirmed booking less than 24 hours before the session (including a no-show), you receive the full agreed contractor fee. Cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance are unpaid.

How do taxes work?

As an independent contractor you are responsible for your own tax filing in Japan, and for your own health insurance and pension. If you have a main job, its social insurance usually continues as-is.

Positions

Are Personal Trainer positions open?

No, not currently. Our personal training and strength & conditioning roles are filled. This posting is only for Muay Thai / Kickboxing instructors (1–2 positions). Having S&C experience yourself is welcome — the work is just striking-focused.

Do I need coaching experience?

Coaching experience is welcome but evaluated individually together with your competition background, demonstration skills and communication. The key question is: can you deliver a safe, enjoyable lesson to a complete beginner?
