Private Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Lessons at FitSync

FitSync offers private, one-to-one Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) lessons in Tokyo. Lessons are held at our five gyms — Roppongi, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza and Azabu-Juban — or on-site at your home, office or hotel, and are by appointment only.

This service is designed for complete beginners as well as experienced grapplers who want individual attention on specific positions or techniques. There are no group classes: every lesson is private, one-to-one with your trainer in a fully private room. Lessons and booking are available in English, so international residents, travelers and business visitors can book directly.

 Who This Is For
  • Beginners who want to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from the basics
  • Anyone who wants to learn the basic positions and movements one-to-one before joining group classes at an academy
  • Judoka, wrestlers and other grapplers who want to learn jiu-jitsu
  • Experienced grapplers who want focused repetition on specific positions or techniques
  • Anyone who wants to learn jiu-jitsu in the gi (no-gi technique is covered too)
  • International residents, travelers and business visitors in Tokyo
  • Clients who want lessons at their home, office or hotel

 What You Learn

Beginners

Breakfalls, the basic positions (guard, mount, side control, back), escapes, guard passing, fundamental submissions and the habit of tapping early and safely — in that order. No martial arts experience needed.

Experienced practitioners

Position-specific work (guard retention, passing, sweeps, back control), gi-based technique (no-gi work also covered), and conditioning for competition. Tell us what you want to work on and we drill it one-to-one.

Gi and no-gi are, in effect, two different games within the same art: the available grips, techniques and pace change a great deal. FitSync’s jiu-jitsu lessons are gi-based, but your first lesson is fine without a gi.

If you also want striking, see our private MMA lessons.

Sparring (rolling) is offered only on request, after we have confirmed your experience and safety.

Lessons that include ground work are held on dedicated safety mats. We will confirm when you book whether your preferred gym or location is suitable.

 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu vs. MMA

MMA (mixed martial arts) combines striking (punches, kicks, knees, elbows) and grappling (takedowns, ground control, joint locks and chokes). Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) uses no striking: you control your opponent with grappling alone and finish with joint locks or chokes. FitSync offers both as private, one-to-one lessons.

  • If you continue training with us, we recommend buying your own gi
  • A rental towel and bottled water are free of charge (included in the lesson fee)

 What to Expect

FitSync's private Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lessons start with a conversation: your goals, your grappling experience, your current fitness and any injuries. From there your trainer builds the lesson around you, progressing step by step with safety checked at each stage.

  • Goal discussion — learning from scratch, improving a specific position, preparing for competition
  • Assessment of your grappling experience and current fitness
  • Technique taught in a safe order, with hands-on coaching
  • Progressive lessons, with clear points to work on before the next session
  • We reply within 24 hours.
  • Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the lesson are free of charge. Cancellations within 24 hours incur the full lesson fee (100%). The same policy applies to rescheduling.
  • We don't push session packs. Single visitor sessions are available.

Choose a location

Programs and founder-led direction are the same across all locations. Prices are set per gym. All five gyms (Roppongi, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza and Azabu-Juban) are by appointment only. Please pick whichever is easiest from your home, office or commute.

FAQ

Can beginners take Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lessons?

Yes. Your first lesson starts with a conversation about your goals, experience and current fitness, and we build from breakfalls, the basic positions and escapes in a safe order. No experience needed. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or have been advised to limit exercise, please consult your doctor first.

Can tourists book BJJ lessons in Tokyo?

Yes. There are no enrollment or monthly fees, and single visitor sessions are available — convenient for travelers and business visitors. Hotel visits can also be arranged on request.

Do I need a gi?

Lessons are gi-based. Your first lesson is fine without a gi (wear a rash guard and tights or comfortable training clothes), and you are welcome to bring your own gi. We do not lend gis, so if you continue training with us we recommend buying your own. A rental towel and bottled water are free of charge (included in the lesson fee).

Are lessons private?

Yes. There are no group classes: your trainer works with you alone. Adding one friend or family member costs +¥5,000 per person per session (Azabu-Juban GYM takes one client at a time).

Can experienced grapplers book technical training?

Yes. Tell us the positions or techniques you want to work on — guard retention, passing, sweeps, back control — and we drill them one-to-one. Rolling is offered only on request, after we have confirmed your experience and safety.

Can I also learn striking?

Yes — our private MMA lessons cover both striking and grappling. For striking only, see Muay Thai and kickboxing lessons.

Where are lessons held?

At our Roppongi gym (5 min from Roppongi Station), at our Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza and Azabu-Juban gyms, or on-site at your home, office or hotel — no travel fee within Minato, Shibuya, Shinjuku and Chuo wards (facility rental costs are covered by the client). Lessons that include ground work are held on dedicated safety mats. All lessons are by appointment only.

Can foreigners book lessons? Is English available?

Yes. Lessons are available in English or Japanese, and you can contact and book with FitSync in English through the contact form, email or LINE (phone support is Japanese only).

What is the difference between BJJ and MMA?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) uses no striking: you control your opponent with grappling alone and finish with joint locks or chokes. MMA (mixed martial arts) combines striking and grappling. FitSync offers both as private, one-to-one lessons.

How do I book?

Send us a message through the contact page with your experience level and your preferred location and dates. We reply within 24 hours. By appointment only.
